Future of the defender
This one must get people posting!! well as we all know the current defender model has been running since 1948ish with little or no serious changes (disregarding names, lenghts and suspension) in the fact they Look the same YOU KNOW ITS A LAND ROVER! but times have to move on and the current defender is nearing the end of its life according to Land Rover itself and early reports say that the new defender will resemble the Lr3 disco using the floating monocoq frame instead of the traditional box chassis! a move they have to make for the improvement of the truck to keep up with rivals and pedestrian saftey my question is do people want a modern square box on wheels that drives itself or do they want the traditional face of british motoring the only one to span 5 decades!

Lets have a look at the past shall we. Ah yes leaf springs used every where, Land Rovers, cars, van commercials and lorry trailers. Now the present Air suspension used everywhere again.. But what about the coil spring. Oh yep the bin thats where they are ....Modern any day give me a disco three any day of the week. Not beacuse of the comfort but because of the capability...... Bigger question what about the use of the Ford diesel engine......NO NO NO

lr85ninety- 02-22-2006

I agree totally about capability 100% and even the suspension issue my only thing is how it all looks! if someone likes the disco 3 then let them buy one dont make all the trucks look the same like every other manufacturer with matching grills and sweeping lights. As i see it landrover only exsist because of a gap in the market for a rugged utility vehicle at the end of the war i dunno maybe im too young to get set in my ways about it but ive grown up admiring the original Land Rover just feel its a shame to see it go!

DISCODRIVER- 02-25-2006

Do agree on looks. It would be nice to use the face of the Disco 3 but not to the same affect. I think they ought to put the lights in the centre where they started !! That would look different in these modern times....

Well seems i have to post again as it seems a little slow! i find it hard that more people dont have an opinion about such matters!! must be that most landy owners spend to much time fixing their trucks to look at a computer lol  anyway so come on people whats been happening in the world of other peoples landrovers must be some funny storys what with the recent snow, anyone rescued any one or anything? I missed it all cos my trucks still going through the process of repair although its nearly roadworthy again now just have to address the problem of no brakes!! :)

Keep the original but just improve the level of comfort to keep up with other manufacturers. Keeping it simple is what has made the life of the "Original" Land Rover las for so long. No Electrics, no air suspension, no difficult mechanicals that is the Land Rover to me. Trevor

Think they should build a defender with a low Co2 emission motor - would Keep the Farmers market otherwise one of the Jap' Co's will do it :!: Look how long the current 90/110 + Defenders have been on the road-and still are ! We'll have to keep on rebuiding em :D .
